hado's folly

September, 2007

Another gorgeous weekend. Pam and Linda came up and we went to the garlic festival in Saugerties. I can't believe we have no pictures of this momentous event! We are really slacking off on the documentation of every moment of our lives.

However, Mark had an adventure while he was cutting down a tree in his quest to open up a view of the mountains. The chainsaw got stuck in the tree. So he rigged up pulleys to pull the tree down. He made me come and take pictures of the tree coming down, but I was afraid it was going to fall on me so I only managed one blurry shot.

I started building a wall around my main garden patch. I want to raise the level of the dirt so it will drain better. It's superhard work hauling those rocks.

tree

Here's the tree. It's the biggest one so far, and the trunk forks front & back.

tree

Uh oh! A few hundred pounds of tree leans back.

tree

Doh! (Sheila wished we documented the Garlic Gestival as well as this).

tree

So now the tree is all trussed up with block and tackles and whatnot.

tree

Four pulleys and it wouldn't budge. A fifth was the charm.

tree

There's a sea chanty in my head, haul away laddie, aye!

tree

Here's my one blurry shot. I was trying not to get killed as I took this.

tree

General Science triumphs, and my saw is free again!

tree

There are quite a few trees left to go but we're starting to see the mountain.

stone wall

The beginning of my stone wall. I want to make it about 6 inches high to build up the soil for better drainage.
